A woman has shared how her mother-in-law keeps on letting herself into their home without informing them first and often catches them in the middle of dinner.
Taking to Reddit, the woman explained that she and her husband have been married for ten years and her ‘on-going problem’ is her mother-in-law who keeps on popping into their home unannounced.
“My husband has told her several times throughout the years to call or text first and she has never done that not one single time. It’s obnoxious entitlement or something,” she wrote.
“Yesterday at dinner right before we sit down to eat she pops in ‘oh I caught you at dinner again, I always seem to do that,’” the woman continued.
“She just stands over top of us as we shove down food to get done quick because it’s awkward.”
The frustrated woman also revealed that it happens twice a week and there were many times when her mother-in-law snuck around her house “and before I know it she’s at my bedroom door peering it.”
Not knowing what to do, she’s now asking for any suggestions on how to stop her mother-in-law’s unannounced visits.
One person commented: “If she has a key, you change the locks and when she tries to get in, she can’t. She gets mad? Oh well.”
Another wrote: “Change the locks. That should stop her & give her the message.”
A third said: “Get a security chain. She may be able too open the door a crack but thats as far as shes getting unless you let her in.”
Someone else shared: “My ex mother in law used to do the same. Came home one day and she’d re-arranged my kitchen cupboards. She did everything for her ‘little boy’; washing, ironing, meals, housework & expected me to do the same, even though I was working a 40hr week. One day she came round so I left my key in the door & hid. Needless to say, she was only my mother in law for a year.”
