Don Lemon has been fired by CNN after working in the network for almost two decades.
This comes after he allegedly mistreated his female colleagues during his career.
“I am stunned,” he wrote on Twitter after receiving news that CNN let go of him. “After 17 years at CNN I would have thought someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”
Lemon went on: “At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network.”
The 57-year-old anchor claimed it was ‘clear’ that there were ‘larger issues at play.’
He then thanked his colleagues and everyone that he worked with.
“They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best,” he concluded.
CNN Communications also took to Twitter and issued a statement, writing: “CNN and Don have parted ways.
“Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years. We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”
This comes after Variety reported about Lemon and his inappropriate behavior at work titled: ‘Don Lemon’s Misogyny at CNN, Exposed: Malicious Texts, Mocking Female Co-Workers and ‘Diva-Like Behavior.’
Lemon first came under fire in February after he made an inappropriate comment about former South Carolina governor and Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, 51.
During the segment, he said she was no longer in her ‘prime.’
“Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime, sorry,” he said. “When a woman is considered to be in her prime — in her 20s, 30s and maybe her 40s.”
He then apologized for his comments, saying: “I’m sorry that I said it. And I certainly see why people found it completely misguided.”
