Jerry Springer, whose full name is Gerald Norman Springer, has passed away peacefully at his Chicago home at the age of 79.
Best known for his TV talk show ‘The Jerry Springer Show, which lasted for almost three decades, he shared his final wish with fans in a heartwarming final message before his death.
In his latest post on social media, he wished fans ‘hope, love, joy and laughter.’
Before the presenter’s sudden death, he joined FOX’s The Masked Singer in October 2022. He sported a beetle costume for the singing competition, which celebrities compete against each other by hiding their identities.
When his identity was finally revealed, viewers and judges started shouting ‘Jerry.’
The talk show legend said: “When I sing, people get involved because they have to guess where the notes were supposed to have been. It’s like interactive.”
During an interview with TV Insider, Springer revealed why he took part in the program.
“I’m semi-retired now, so normally, when I get asked to do things now I do them either [because] it’s important, like if it’s political, or it’s fun if it’s show business. And this goes into the category, it’s just fun to do,” he said.
The Emmy-winning news anchor also said that his grandson “would really geta kick out of it.”
“That’s really the reason I had time to do it, and it’s just a fun thing to do.”
Springer said that performing while wearing a large costume was hard.
“Seeing was the most difficult part. Not just because the sweat in my eyes, but the eyes in the head didn’t remain where my eyes are, and so I couldn’t see and I don’t know where I’m walking on the stage,” he added.
