Sam Asghari, 29, has filed for divorce from his wife Britney Spears, 41, multiple sources confirmed.
According to TMZ, the two have decided to separate after a nuclear argument that involves cheating allegations.
An insider told the news outlet that Sam confronted the superstar over rumors she stepped out on him. Sources also revealed that he has moved out of their house.
It was in 2016 when Britney and Sam first met on the seat of Spears’ Slumber Party’ music video set. The couple have been inseparable since then and they tied the knot in June 2022 in front of guests including Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez, and Madonna.
But in February, sources revealed to PEOPLE that Spears’ close friends had ‘grown concerned’ and rumors started circulating in March that the couple were having marriage problems.
Sam’s rep, Brandon Cohen, quickly shut down the rumors.
In April 2019, Britney checked into a facility for ‘all-encompassing wellness treatment’ and Sam played a big role in supporting the singer.
A Spears family source said to PEOPLE: “There is no question that Sam is great for Britney. He has a very positive influence on her. He is very motivated to stay healthy and fit, and they often work out together.”
Sam also supported the superstar during her conservatorship fight.
“Sam has been Britney’s rock for years. He makes sure that she eats well and works out,” the source said.
“She leans on him for everything. He works and has his own life too, but is around as much as he can,” the source added.
But according to TMZ, there has been ‘deep trouble’ with the couple’s marriage for months and they were told that Britney has gotten physical with her husband in blowout fights.
While Sam has defended Britney from critics, sources revealed that he was ‘frustrated at wits’ end.’
The singer has a prenup which protects her assets but a source told the news outlet that the probable end to their marriage will be a check from Britney to Sam to settle things.
