The Young and The Restless star Eric Braeden has left his fans devastated after he revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
In his 13-minute video shared on Facebook, he told his fans that he is undergoing a treatment called immunotherapy to treat high-grade cancer cells found near his bladder.
He received the diagnosis while he was recovering from knee surgery and started to experience prostate problems.
The Titanic star said in the video: “I hate to be this personal but I think this may be good for some older guys who may or may not listen to this.”
He explained that he found himself needing to urinate to the point where it was happening ‘every half hour’ but he couldn’t pee.
Eric decided to see a urologist who suggested that he undergo a procedure called UroLift to relieve pressure on the urethra.
“And that my friends, I can tell you, is one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever had,” he admitted.
After the pressure on his bladder was relieved, Eric returned to the doctor a few days later and an examination revealed that he had cancer.
“Needless to say, I was taken aback, but I was determined to deal with it,” he said.
Immunotherapy uses a person’s own immune system to combat cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, it can ‘boost or change how the immune system works so it can find and attack cancer cells.’
Eric said the doctor told him he would experience ‘flu-like symptoms’ and weakness after each round of treatment.
“So that’s where I am right now. I’m a little under the weather, but not really much,” he said, adding that he has been trying to continue his daily routine but does not go ‘all out.’
“I’ve learned now to listen to my body more and not go all out. I’m gonna get it. And I’ll be in top form again soon,” he vowed.
